Yikes! No swimming in the Marsh.

Poor Dixon. He had a bad day duck hunting with the fellas and ended up in the animal ER. But how he got there is the weird thing. He ran and did the thing dogs do duck hunting and when it was time to go home, he was slowing down. When they got home, as Jeff was unpacking, I saw that Dixon was shaking and limping. For the next hour we tried to figure out what was wrong with him. We saw a cut under his shoulder, but he would only snap at us if we tried to move his shoulder. But the weird part was his swollen ankle that didn't seem to bother him.

We decided that we'd better take him in. At the Animal ER they had no idea what the problem might be. The only thing that acts like that is a rattlesnake bite, but there were no snakes in the marsh. So they kept Dixon and did a little surgery and found a 4" section of his muscle on his upper leg that was completely black! It turned out to be some type of bacteria that rapidly destroys tissue. Within two hours it had done that much damage!

Dixon was a little groggy afterwards. And you can see he got a cute new collar to wear for a few days while the stitches and stint do their job. You can also see how swollen his ankle was and it was double that size.

So for the next few days, Dixon got a spot in the garage. He is living the life with everyone fussing over him, sleeping on blankets and pillows, eating people food, and having a warm place to hang out.
